Zoey's Legacy

Zoey's Legacy

Zoey was a beautiful Belgian Malinois with a shy and soft personality. She found her forever family who went to Florida to pick her up. It was love at first sight. Zoey was a flight risk due to her background. Shortly after reaching her home in another state she backed out of her flat collar. Her family, friends, and rescue friends looked for her for days. Zoey was found dead. She was a casualty of not having enough time to bond with her family before she was lost. She eluded capture at every attempt. Lets not let Zoey’s death be in vain. Please review the tools available and make sure we have a plan for each dog to transport and transition to their new family. Let Zoey’s Legacy ensure safety for other pets in the future.

What is Zoey's Legacy

As a result of Zoey's tragic loss MAD Rescue made the decision to provide a FI GPS Locator collar for every dog brought in to our program.

The collar allows any dog to be tracked via a cell phone to determine it's location. This technology allows us to know the exact location of an animal that is lost.

Each dog that is in a foster home is provided a collar. That same collar will transfer to the adopter along with 12 months of tracking service.

MAD Rescue was determined not to let Zoey's death be in vain.

  4. Dogs new to a household should be kept in a collar for weeks or even months to prevent escape
  5. New furry family members should be kept on long lines or leashes when outside of fences
